****Wiley's Championship BBQ
4700 Highway 80 East Savannah, GA 31410
We were looking to continue our casual trip with fabulous food we looked online for BBQ in Savannah. Wiley's Championship BBQ came highly rated. The restaurant is small with most seating inside but a few tables outside. The restaurant is inviting, and filled with memorabilia of their BBQ triumphs.
Luckily, a table opened up and we were seated within a few minutes of arriving. We ordered drinks (sweet tea and a Sweetwater 420 beer) and checked out the menu. Greg ordered the St Louis Ribs and Pulled Pork Combo with Coleslaw and Beans. I ordered the Pulled Pork plate with Sweet Potato Casserole and Collards. For sauces, Wiley's is famous for their Better than Sex BBQ Sauce (spicy tomato base) but both of us preferred the Wiley's Mountain Sauce (vinegar base). The ribs and pulled pork were outstanding. Both were utterly tender, had a nice smoke ring, flavorful, with lots of bark, and little fat; just the way we like it and make it back at home (yes the New Englander's have 2 charcoal grills, and 2 smokers). The sides were also all terrific, unique, creamy, sweet, salty, and comforting.
The waitstaff at the restaurant were also so nice, funny, and helpful! Wiley's doesn't bottle their Mountain Sauce but the staff were more than happy to pour me a large container right from the fresh batch and only charge me the same as a bottled sauce.
We cannot wait to head back to Savannah and our first stop will definitely be at Wiley's Championship BBQ!

****Rocks on the Roof
The Bohemian Hotel
102 West Bay Street, Savannah, GA 31401
We were still full from our lunch at Belford's of Savannah but we were in need of some cool drinks. Walking in to The Bohemian Hotel you take the first elevator on the left right on up to the lounge.
The lounge offers a covered seating area with a large bar and multiple size tables. There is also a deck area (uncovered with the same options). We started out by ordering an American Mule (American Harvest vodka, fresh lime juice and Reed’s Ginger Beer) and Pear Tree Marini (Smirnoff Pear vodka, St-Germain, fresh lemon juice, and a sugared rim). Both drinks were refreshing and flavorful although, the martini did have too much sugar on the rim of the glass.
We decided to order a 2nd round of drinks and this time Greg tried a Sweetwater 420 Beer from Georgia and I ordered another Pear Tree Marini. We did get to see some of the food come out of the kitchen. The Parmesan Truffle Fries looked delicious and a generous portion.
Next time we are in town we will definitely stop in for more drinks and hopefully get to try the Parmesan Truffle Fries or the Chicken and Waffle Sliders.

****Belford's of Savannah
315 W. St. Julian Street Savannah, GA 31401
After dropping off our luggage at our hotel we headed into the Historic District of Savannah. We walked through the City Market and decided on lunch at Belford's of Savannah. Even though it was warm out we decided to dine al fresco. Our waiter was very friendly, funny, warm, and attentive.
For starters we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes. The tomatoes came with a roasted corn salsa and spicy remoulade. The tomatoes were hot and crispy although I prefer mine to be a bit more tender then how they were served.
Greg ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy with Savannah Rice. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal and the plate was cleaned! I ordered Belford's Award Winning Crab Cakes with Steamed Vegetables and Savannah Rice. I can completely see how the crab cakes are award winning. They were crispy on the outside with very little filling, just fresh crab; completely satisfying.
It appears that Belford's of Savannah is a favorite of tourists and locals alike. After our meal, we are also fans of the restaurant.

During our visit the service was slow and the first impression wasn't great. Upon greeting us our server began to tell us all the items the restaurant was out of and then started to tell us how no one in the area had Fried Green Tomatoes because they were so expensive. We didn't find this to be true anywhere else (Savannah or Charleston).
We did enjoy the 6 degrees beer and the Rosemary Ale. The food was good but not memorable.

March 2011When we began walking around Savannah we walked past the podium and luckily put our names down for lunch. The hostess gave us 3:00 which was perfect for us (when we returned for lunch the earliest seating was 9:00 pm).
Upon being seated we were given a cheddar biscuit and hoe cakes - both delicious! Our server was friendly and accommodating. My husband and I ate off the menu and the other two ate from the buffet. Ordering off the menu is the way to go! Our friends enjoyed the buffet but said it wasn't as great as they thought it would have been. We on the other hand both truly enjoyed our meals.

Fabulous and friendly service, very cool atmosphere, and unbelievably delicous food. You can not go wrong visiting the Crystal Beer Parlor.
For drinks we enjoyed Crystals Strawberry Flirtini, and my husband enjoyed Schlitz on tap. Must haves from the menu are the Bleu Chips, Deviled Crab Burger, and the Oyster Sandwich. Yum!
