****Carlo's Bakery
95 Washington Street Hoboken, NJ
We have watched Buddy and his family on Cake Boss for a while now. Our road trip was the perfect opportunity to try some of the pastries sold at the bakery. Not knowing how busy the bakery would be (after seeing the lines on the tv show), we decided to try to arrive around 8:00 a.m.
We detoured from the highway, and passed through New York City. After driving by the USS Intrepid and the NYC Skyline , we headed through the Lincoln Tunnel to Hoboken. Parking was easy to find in the early morning hours. We were happy to see there wasn't a line of people at the bakery. There were a few people taking pictures. We took some ourselves and then proceeded to shop inside.
We purchased one pound of mixed cookies, a red velvet cupcake, and a chocolate cupcake. The red velvet cupcake was a bit of a disappointment. In my opinion, the red velvetfrosting contained too much butter and not enough cream cheese, there also wasn't much of a tang to the cupcake itself. The chocolate cupcake was delicious and balanced. The cookies were the highlight. While the cookies are all butter cookies, the designs, flavors, and texture were all spot on.
Carlo's Bakery is well worth the detour!
