This was our third whale watch in New England but our first out of Boston. Every year we give an unusual Christmas gift to our three younger cousins rather than getting them toys they don't need. This year the gift was a whale watch with us.
We met at Long Wharf in Boston and patiently (well some of us) waited for the 9:30 boarding time. The 5 of us headed to the top deck of the boat (which turned out not to be the best idea, lots of movement). The boat does offer three restrooms, food, beverages, and bags for those who get sea / motion sick. It took us a little over than an hour to get out to where the whales were. Compared to other trips we've been on this seemed longer. On this trip we probably got about 45 - 60 minutes of viewing time before the ride back to Boston. We encountered several humpback whales on this trip and they were all very close to our boat. The guide gave the usual talk that this was so exciting and not normal but in our opinion it is normal. The whales seem to always be as curious about us as we are about them. We seemed to have had better experiences previously by viewing whales feeding and also breaching. In the end though they are beautiful creatures and it's still great to see them.
