A friend of mine came up from Florida for a weeks visit. We had a wonderful time together as usual! Our week was a mix of being casual at home, spending time with family/friends and playing tourist.
We spent a fun day in Salem MA. We went by The House of Seven Gables, Ye Olde Pepper Company, Salem Willows and The Salem With Museum. For lunch we decided to burn all of our taste buds with all of the spicy options at Bonchon! While the heat was a bit much for us (lots of waters were ordered) the flavors were terrific. We decided to go with snack foods for our meal. We enjoyed half and half of potstickers, half and half chicken strips, and Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) sans cheese and fish cakes.
That evening we had plans to go to my sisters for dinner with the whole family. We stopped by Caramel Patisserie (my new favorite) and purchased a variety of pastries. Unfortunately they don't offer any dairy free options. Before heading over I made a quick batch of my favorite gluten free and dairy free peanut butter cookies. Everyone deserves some dessert right?!
We decided to order dinner from The Antique Table in Lynn MA. I can't wait to go back to this restaurant. The interior is filled with warm lighting, wood tables, and felt like an Osteria in Italy. Our meals were Gnocchi Basilico (4), Chicken Saltimboca, Eggplant Rollatine, Chicken Parmigiana, and Broccoli Rabe. Everything was delicious. The only problem we found was that the Gnocchi orders varied in sizes. My entree (dairy free version) was a large portion, however the other orders were small with some being tiny. We weren't sure if this was due to our order being for take out, or if it was just an error. Either way we will definitely go back for a 2nd visit.
Market Street in Lynnfield MA is a great place to hang out. For some adult time we enjoyed getting food and drinks at Temazcal Tequila Cantina (highly recommend the Beso's Margarita) and The Yard House (my favorite dish there is the Grilled Korean BBQ Beef appetizer). We also took the kids to King's Bowling one day. 5 adults, 1 teenager, and 2 toddlers makes for an interesting outing! We were also in need of some retail therapy during our time together. At Market Street I love The Grove Boutique, Pia, White House Black Market, Williams Sonoma....I could go on and on!
A hot and sunny day isn't the best choice to go walking and sightseeing in Boston but we attempted it. We visited Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market and had high hopes of going to the Gardens and Newbury St. Unfortunately, my companions were melting so we opted for drinks and lunch at Koy. We started with some Korean Mandu and Cucumber Cilantro Lemonade's. For entrees we ordered the Bibimbap, Terriyaki Steak Tips, and Galbi (Short Ribs). Everything was delicious however the atmosphere was definitely lacking. The doors/windows were open and the hot humid outside air filled the restaurant. Our escape from the heat was definitely short lived.
