I have finally been diagnosed with IBS (Irrititable Bowl Syndrome) and SIBO (Small Intesting Bacteria Overgrowth). Basically my stomach can't process certain foods, the main one being dairy. When I eat those foods my body creates an excess of bacteria which causes (at least for me) stomach pain, back pain, bloating, gas, weight gain, etc. etc.).
My Dr. Prescribed me 10 days of antibiotics and I have adopted a Paleo diet with a couple extra restrictions. I am basically having to learn how to cook again. I am eliminating grains, dairy, sugars (except honey), potatoes, rices, gluten free starches, cauliflower, and citrus. "What the heck does that leave" is the usual question I get. My new diet consists of meats, seafood, greens, salads, berries, nuts, seeds, celery root, and more. I will fully admit I was devastated by all of this. It's incredible depressing to feel sick all the time (this time around it was 6 weeks of pain). Then you Dr appointments, then food restrictions (which is the worst to a foodie) and you end up incredible demoralized. Greg was happy about the new diet lol - "we'll lost the weight we want to"! Ugh I could have killed him at that point lol. It's been 2 weeks of me eating right and taking medications. I have lost 7 pounds, lost the bloat, and have minimal pain! Needless to say I'm sticking with new food list! My allergy cohort Robyn has also adopted the Paleo diet to heal her stomach from gluten, potato, almond, and sesame allergies. Now to the good and fun news! Coming up I'll have restaurant and bakery reviews from Washington D.C. I have reviews from a Asian store / sandwich shop in Lowell MA. I have pictures of new cakes I have made for friends and for donations. I have reviews and pictures from our weekend in NYC (Hilton Manhattan East, Morimoto, and more! Finally I will be posting photos, and recipes from my new Paleo lifestyle! Talk to you soon!
