The Hourly Oyster House Cambridge MA February 18 2017
My sister decided to try Th eHourly Oyster House for her birthday dinner celebration. We were a party of 6 who made a reservation for 5:30 pm. When we arrived our reserved table was a High Top with stools. Naturally this wouldn't work for us because my mother is a senior citizens who is now struggling with Sciatic issues.
The hostess checked our reservation and stated that we requested a high top. This definitely wasn't the case as my sister wasn't given a table option when booking on Opentable. The hostess came back a 2nd time and told us that their dining room isn't big enough to accommodate a table of 6. This left me feeling that the table was an automatic selection during the reservation process. I spoke with a manager in hopes of a compromise. The bar area had stools but with backings. The manager stated that he did have an extra type of that chair so it would be fine for us to use that at our table for my mother. Unfortunately, this only helped a little bit and my mother ended up going home in agony.
Now on to the food. We started our meal with drinks which took a very long time to arrive Once they did arrive we were also given malt vinegar and salt potato chips. Very tasty! For starters we ordered raw oysters/ clams, octopus,, calamari (which wasn't dairy free), and arctic char toast (not dairy free). The oysters and clams were very tasty especially with the ginger mignonette however each of them did have shell pieces in it. The Octopus was cooked perfectly with salty, crunchy and sweet additions. I can't comment on the calamari but the others seemed to enjoy it.
Our entrees were lobster pot pie, scallops (regular), scallops (dairy free), Branzino, Burger, and Porcini Tagliatelle. Everyone enjoyed their own dishes. I was a bit saddened that my dish was changed so greatly. It was supposed to be scallops, celery root puree, and brussels sprouts. I was informed the celery root puree contained dairy but I was hoping to get the roasted brussels sprouts. Instead I got a simple albeit delicious vegetable medley.
The service during our meal was lacking unfortunately. Our waitress was very attentive to start but then during our meal only one of us got asked if we wanted another drink. After we finished eating our plates weren't cleared. Finally we ended up asking for the check. The restaurant seems to be too busy for the amount of space and/or the number of servers they have. If they can work out a few of these kinks this would definitely be a not be missed restaurant in the Boston area.
