When Greg worked in New York he would stop at Num Pang Kitchen before heading home. We loved several of their sandwiches and always hoped we could get them locally. While shopping in the Prudential Center in Boston we noticed a sign one day. It said Num Pang Kitchen coming soon! We are thrilled that they are now open!
We were in town shopping with Porscha and decided to get some sandwiches to go. We ordered the Pulled Duroc Pork, 5 Spice Glazed Pork Belly, and the Ginger Barbecue Brisket. All three sandwiches were as good as we remembered. The staff also accommodated my dairy allergy by switching their usual chili mayo to their soy based mayo. The bread has a wonderful chew to it, the flavors were bright and balanced, and the vegetables adding the perfect crunch! I can't wait to go back!!!

We had tickets to go to a viewing of The Princess Bride and Q&A with Cary Elwes. Before heading over to the Theater District we decided to try dinner at Pabu. We arrived a little early and had a few moments wait until we were seated. We ended up with a table with a view of downtown crossing. We ordered drinks from the Bar thanks to recommendations from another employee. Our server was friendly and very funny however after the initial start we hardly saw him. The restaurant has a variety of food runners and we saw them more than our server. We opted for the Omakase menu which meant we would be dining on only sushi. Our 9 course meal was filled with a variety of delicious and fresh seafood. I was thrilled to see that at the end of our meal the staff made a dairy free dessert for me! While we enjoyed our meal we agreed that we prefer an Omakase that has selections for both the cold and hot selections (Morimoto Asia and Oishii have been some of our favorites). After dinner we raced over to the Wilbur Theater. Minus the horribly uncomfortable seats we thoroughly enjoyed watching The Princess Bride and hearing wonderful and hilarious stories from Cary Elwes!
A couple of months ago my mother in law came for a visit and we had such a fun time together. It was so great to relax and have fun with one another. During her stay we mostly spent time unwinding but we did have a couple of outings. We drove up the coastal route to Hampton Beach NH, Kittery ME, and Wells Beach ME and stopped in at Cape Neddick lighthouse. The weather however was awful! We have hardly any pictures because the minute we stepped outside the car we were caught in wind and rain. It definitely made for an interesting hair day! We decided to eat out most of our meals during her stay just so we could enjoy our time and not have to worry about cooking or cleaning. One day we stopped in at Eataly in Boston MA. We picked up a couple loaves of bread, proscuitto, salami, cheese, olives, and spreads. It made for a perfect light meal with some delicious wine. One night we went to dinner with my parents to The Hardcover in Danvers MA. The Hardcover is an old school dark wood steakhouse. This type of restaurant isn't my usual style but my NY Sirloin was perfection!! You can also check out my review of Gaslight in Lynnfield MA that we enjoyed during her stay. Another visitor we had recently was my cousin from Ohio. My cousin was in town to go to Boston's Lamb Jam but we did get to spend some time sightseeing as well. We first took a scenic route to Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester MA. The weather wasn't exactly beach weather but it was really nice to walking up the boardwalk onto the soft sand. We were able to take some pictures and catch a peek at some local surfers. We drove further up the road and parked in Rockport MA. We walked around, popped into a few shops, and my cousin purchased Greg's favorite....a baked clam to go. After sightseeing it was lunch time and we decided to try My Place by the Sea. For drinks we ordered the Lemonade Chiller. While we thoroughly enjoyed the cucumber lemonade the idea of calling it a Mocktail so that they could charge $9.00 seemed ridiculous. Our entrees were fine. My salad was deconstructed due to my allergies however I think it was actually for the best. The description was "Warm Salad of Zucchini, Summer Squash, Tomato, French Olive, Feta & Basil with Grilled Spicy Shrimp." I ended up having the feta and pesto removed. The salad was bright and filling. The morning of the Lamb Jam we went to my parents house for breakfast and then decided to go down to Newbury St in Boston. We walked around Newbury St a bit and went into Restoration Hardware to marvel at the buildings architecture.
Last week we had tickets to go and see Circus 1903 at the Wang Theater (Boch Center) in Boston. Circus 1903 is a an animal free circus with talented artists and fun for all ages. We started our night with a frustrating experience at Laz parking garage lot formerly the Motor Mart garage. The only entrance open was on Stuart Street so we had to drive around and wait in a line of cars entering the garage. At the end of the evening we tried to pay for our ticket and all of the tickets were invalid. We drove down to the office and had to wait in a line of people to pay. Obviously the transition wasn't smooth. After parking we walked over to Abby Lane for drinks and appetizers before the show. We were fortunate to only have a 10 minute wait for seats at the Bar. The drinks we ordered were wonderful. I loved the Cat's Pajamas with lavender infused gin. Greg enjoyed the Barrel Aged Papa Joe. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to the service nor the drinks. We ordered a dozen oysters and while they and the accompaniments were delicious, the oysters weren't shucked properly. The next issue was with the salt and vinegar french fries. Sadly these contained milk powder. The last issue was when I asked if they had plain french fries and I was given french fries that were battered. French fries can be crunchy and delicious all on their own with out flour or milk! Take the time to let ingredients shine on their own. We crossed the street and entered the Wang Theater. Before heading to our seats we purchased a couple of waters and champagne's. Why not, it's date night! Circus 1903 was fantastic. The show was wonderfully themed, the costumes were well chosen, the performers were amazing, and the entire performance was filled with whimsy. The Hourly Oyster House |
